Hi, Pilates people! I'm Tracy Belcher I'm here in my Miami Studio, Pilatay - The Studio. I'm a dual-certified Pilates teacher and level two Franklin method teacher I'm coming to you from Miami to talk about cleaning Pilates apparatuses. We're going to bring you some tips and best practices for cleaning and maintaining every Pilates lover’s most prized possession - our equipment!
Last year I spoke with the manufacturers of Naugahyde vinyl which is the vinyl used on Pilates apparatuses you can check out those posts on palate.com. this year I'm super excited to have with us Paddy Corey, an Australia-based Pilates teacher who's been servicing classical Pilates reformers and Equipment since 2014. Paddy is also the author of The ebook reformer maintenance 101 a guide to servicing your Reformer which I'm going to put a link attached to this to this interview where you can find that audiobook. Patty welcome!
Paddy Coary
Thank you Tracy very nice to be here
Tracy
Tell us about yourself. How did you get into servicing Pilates equipment?
Paddy
I'm a Pilates teacher by day, and reformer maintainer by night. We were at CP one year - a Romana’s Pilates CP - and David Rosencrans from Gratz was visiting, and he asked, “Does anybody want to get involved in reformer maintenance?” I think I was the only guy in the room and everybody just turned around and looked at me. I came around from there so kind of worked with Gratz for a while to find out how to go about fixing Reformers and maintaining them, and yeah I kind of started from there and that was 2014, so almost 10 years now. It's been good.
Tracy
So did he kind of train you the ins and outs in the beginning?
Paddy
Yeah between him and his maintenance department at Gratz and or kind of the guys on the floor talk me through it. One of the guys there - his name was Russel, I don't think he's with them anymore - but he kind of had done a lot of maintenance work and for many years before he joined Gratz so he was able to kind of walk me through the process that they do and and then I started implementing that here in Australia and and then kind of after a little while would get a lot of calls and emails from people in other cities in Australia and other countries asking would I travel to kind of do the maintenance work for them and it's not really so feasible been so far away. SDo I put it all down in an e-book and kind of just consolidated all the information and then when people get in touch at least they had something like it send off and say look first of all kind of walk you through start to finish what you need to do so yeah it took a couple of years to put together mostly because I procrastinated with it a bit but um I got it all together and you know really happy with it. I turned out great.
Tracy
before I was trained in classical Pilates I started in contemporary Pilates, and I had a balanced Body Studio. Then I got my classical Pilates training, fell in love with classical, and went all in on the classical and got a full classical studio. Maintaining a contemporary studio is a completely different thing from maintaining a classical studio. Can you tell us about some of the special considerations for classical equipment?
Paddy
In my experience, the Contemporary stuff doesn't need so much maintenance. They're quite aloike, you know to average person, it might look like a reformer is a reformer - but they are quite different in the way they're put together. So with the chords instead of the leather straps, it's just different and like the chords don't stretch where the leather does stretch so there's a little bit to be thought about there.
But mostly, it's the way the wheels are set up. So say, let's use Balanced Body, for example. Their wheels have ball bearings so that's why, when you push out on the reformer, it feels a lot smoother. It’s not the same kind of resistance that you get on say a Gratz or Pilates Designs reformer, and that's because those wheels are just a wheel and then a (?) and a bolt that runs through it. And you just kind of grease that up, and that's what gives that.. you know the way you jump on a reformer and you have that feeling of, “oh yeah, this is different.” That's what that feeling is.
Tracy
The drag. The drag of the classical wheels.
Paddy
I would say that's the biggest difference, really. Well, the Springs are different as well, but um, no, the biggest difference is the wheels the way it's set up underneath
Tracy
So when it comes to the wheels let's talk about that. On a classical reformer, what what is most likely to inhibit the optimal function of a classical reformer wheel?
Paddy
So as I was saying, the bolt that goes through the wheel is coated, and it has to be coated in grease. So when it comes brand new, you know, like anybody who's unpacked a new reformer might have noticed like a yellowy sort of residue around the wheels. And that's where they've been greased up in the factory. Over time that'll start to dry out a little bit and it also is really good at attracting dirt, dust, hair a lot of hand that's what starts to kind of just slow that down and then over time as the as the wheel moves in it the grease starts to get poor starts so youstart to get that little bit of metal on metal so loads of people have heard it in their Studios where it's like a real screeching noise on the wheel and that's like a big Telltale saying that yours your reformer needs a service
Tracy
what are some of the common mistakes for
servicing Wheels like if people when people try to do it themselves without the assistance of viewer like an ebook
5:58
or you know they just try to go and service it themselves what mistakes do people often make the biggest mistake is in the use of the
6:05
Greece so what was recommended to me and I have my
6:10
top now I wouldn't recommend getting a tub this size because I'm this is 10 years old like and I'm I'm about halfway
6:16
through you can get small tubes the same of the same stuff so it's called White lithium grease
6:22
you can also buy it as an aerosol do not buy as an aerosol it's no good like it
6:28
it doesn't it doesn't work you need the actual grease which you know it's a little bit Messier to apply but it gives
6:34
that nice coating and caution to the and yeah you don't get that scratching noise
6:40
with the grease whereas with the aerosol one like I've had Studios contact me say
6:45
look I just service this reformer it's making this noise what's going on and it's it's the use of the aerosol as
6:52
opposed to the actual brakes itself so yeah always the crease okay
6:57
um let's talk about Springs so I'm in Miami which is a notoriously humid
7:04
climate and I have all possible Springs and they all have a little bit of rust
7:09
on them do all classical Springs rust it really comes down to where you're
7:15
located so Sydney is where I'm at scene like it's gotten more tropical in the time I've lived here and
7:22
and the humidity last year was through the roof and on my studio is
7:27
it used to be a car mechanics like a long long time ago so it's got one small window and it's
7:34
kind of built into a hill so the airflow is horrendous so the hair just the air
7:40
just sits here and last year when it was very humid I had a lot of problems with the humidity so
7:46
this year I've discovered that my Springs are doing the scene so that's
7:51
circus rust and it's not a big deal it doesn't mean the spring needs replaced it just needs uh some stable you just
8:00
take a piece of your stairwell just rub down to take off the rust and then you need to seal the spring so
8:09
I usually would use WD-40 no for anybody using WD-40 do not use it in
8:16
your studio it stinks that I haven't it is horrendous smell
8:22
um so I recommend taking your Springs homeless here or taking them out of your studio spread them down somewhere
8:27
outside with a nice lots of ventilation and then just let it dry out and then again you can kind of bring them back
8:34
into the studio at that point but no don't spread of your D40 in your studio
8:41
um but you can actually wash it off because that's exactly what mine looked like and I always thought no it's just
8:47
circus rust the Springs themselves are really robustic you know they um
8:53
I don't think there's a chance that they'd rust through I've never seen that happen anytime I've seen Ralston Springs it was easy to clean up contact the
9:00
studio months later two months later ask how the Springs are fine no problems how do you know when you do have to replace
9:07
a spring so I've never seen it like in the 10
9:13
years I've been servicing reformers here in Australia I've never seen a reformer spring that needed replaced I have seen
9:18
a Cadillac sprinkle a leg spring and you're just to look at it so you can't look at it and see and it should
9:25
be quite uniform like everything should look the same the whole way down and if you're looking along your spring and you
9:31
can see like a space that's quite a bit wider than you know than some of the rest of the spring probably time to look
9:37
about your Springs warped a bit and it's probably time to look a bit replacing it okay so that would be what I would say
9:44
like definitely for everybody and like inspect your spring like clothes and
9:50
then kind of pull the character I'd say we're talking to a reformer and have a look and it should all look really
9:55
uniform like even when you do pull it apart there shouldn't be like a big gap small Gap small Gap small Gap that
10:01
should be consistent the whole way through okay
10:06
um the number one question that we always get when I take questions for this series is what is the best way to
10:14
clean the vinyl what can we use um
10:19
well look soap and water is a good start making a little fairy liquid do you very liquid
10:25
in the states like this um we use we use here Dawn so most of our
10:32
like the nagahide people and then the manufacturers will say either Don
10:38
because that's what we use to like whenever there's like an oil spill and stuff and they have to clean the oil off
10:43
the birds they use like the mild dish soap um and that so that's what's considered
10:50
here like the the name brand mild dish soap and they'll tell us to use a one to ten dilution of that yeah um because
10:57
that's just kind of I guess the safe bet that's generally what they tell us to use is is Dawn but then some people like
11:04
my we have something called Myers I don't know if you have that and and other mild dish soaps but that's okay
11:10
well look a popular one out here would and it's what the one I use in my own studio is is eucalyptus oil now we're
11:17
talking like maybe one or two drops I haven't confirmed does anybody if that's safe to use on the reformers but
11:24
look my studio has been running for been for quite a while now it's 20 years and I had no problems no
11:31
problems at all no when I go to service somebody's reformers I do use something different so I use method and you can
11:39
get this just like the supermarket okay when I first started we we couldn't get it at the supermarket I had to order it
11:45
in specially but no it's in our local you know grocery stores and I wouldn't really recommend using the day-to-day I
11:52
haven't tried using it day to day on mine it's it's a bit stronger than you know your general desk shops but for
11:58
that once or twice a year whenever you're serving your reformer it brings it up really nicely they kind of takes
12:04
out those you know those sort of stubborn themes that maybe won't just go yeah and but yeah that's what I use on a
12:11
service imagine that probably like trying to get all this stuff on the
12:16
frame yeah yeah it's all purpose cleaner and it's alcohol-free one so I think
12:21
that that helps as well it doesn't have alcohol I it's just to avoid trying to dry your your vinyl and have it like it
12:28
can crack sometimes okay and but yeah so that's what I use when I
12:33
service but I don't recommend any of the studios that I work with to go and buy a bottle and use it every day a lot of
12:39
people here like to use tea tree oil because of its antibacterial properties but I've heard that that also and I want
12:46
to say that maybe when I did the interview last year with the nagahide people they might have addressed this I have to go back and look it up but I've
12:53
heard that it dries it out also do you know anything about tea tree oil or other essential oils like that
12:58
I've never used them so I can't speak you know I haven't come across any Studios that said oh we use tea tree oil
13:04
here it would be either eucalyptus or just the soap okay
13:10
um and then just as an aside anybody who the um the manufacturers all put out a best
13:17
like practices or whatever for their equipment so you guys can always look at that I have links to those on pilates.com on the series and then also
13:25
the naugahide people last year addressed some of these questions so if you want more information about what you can use you can go check out those blogs on
13:31
pilates.com as well um what about wipes so people want to know
13:37
like what should they use as a white paper towel washcloths you have any recommendations
13:43
just like in or not when it's just what I use myself in the studio and what the majority of Studios that I visit just
13:50
like a washed off they're kind of a bit more environmentally friendly Chuck them in the wash at the end of the
13:55
week bring them back out like it's that's what we would go with here and I
14:01
have seen some places that use like the gym wakes and stuff but again look I don't know about username day in Day art
14:06
on on the the upholstery for the reformers I would be afraid to use that because of the chemicals yeah same yeah
14:14
right there on the side of like what the manufacturer is going to recommend I would just stick with that yeah I mean
14:19
some people are afraid that it's going to leave like a soapy residue but I read once that you should just take like you can like just wipe it off with a clean
14:24
one afterward and wait for it to dry um but I have never noticed that it leaves a residue because it's so diluted
14:31
no problem for me no and I suppose that's it if you are that concerned about like during covert
14:37
I know we were cleaning for everybody kind of on top of gear but like we would have
14:43
used and when we used a more harsh kind of things in the different Studios like I was
14:48
working in a few Shooters at that time yeah and we were drying it off afterwards just because we didn't want
14:54
to leave the water on the vinyl and you know having it just cleaned up straight away we can protect it but yeah I kind of I
15:02
don't know I think out here particularly things have kind of calmed down a little bit on the cleaning every five seconds
15:08
yeah sort of from so um yeah we can have just in my studio gone back to normal
15:14
what we were doing before that's what we're back to doing now I was shocked when I when I spoke of the nagahide
15:20
people last year and they told me there's only three ingredients that they have tested on the on the vinyl and
15:26
they're trying to you know keep the Coating in place so they test like the coding I forgot what it's called but they said mild soap a diluted alcohol
15:35
and diluted bleach and I was like horrified that nobody would use bleach on their equipment I would not do it I'm
15:43
not brave enough for that yeah I wouldn't do it but you know if you're in a pinch you can always kind of go look
15:48
on their website and and see because I think the vinyl the vinyl is used in hospitals and stuff it's used in so many
15:54
different situations yeah different sounds so that in that situation would make sense and our beloved belongings
16:01
equipment we just couldn't imagine a little bit different than a waiting room chair yeah for sure
16:08
um okay let's talk about cleaning the fabric part so like what about cleaning
16:13
the you know like the reformer leather Loops where you're going for like short spine
16:19
um and do how do you recommend keeping that sanitized and clean
16:26
I wouldn't go out to wrote leather too much yeah I would with the extension straps
16:32
different story maybe like I would just pop them in the wash but not you know not too regularly but whenever I feel
16:39
they need to clean they come home with me and they go into the washing machine just for the load of washing yeah and I
16:45
don't think I popped them in on their own like with them bouncing around the machine but in with a like a low just
16:50
the way we would do it and
16:58
I just kind of go inside with that yeah quick quick swipe around
17:03
with getting a leather wet and stuff like that I kind of would avoid that personally and
17:09
put the extension shops there and they can just go like a seamless my caddy and leg Springs the looks on the end of them
17:15
they'll just come home every now and again and they'll go into the machine just to kind of keep them clean
17:21
I keep a little spray bottle of diluted alcohol in my studio and sometimes like in between clients I'll just spray
17:28
like a leg spray yeah a light spray that's right
17:33
um okay so this is something that happens to me the on the frames
17:41
uh my frame gets like black tracked or yeah Black Tracks from the wheels so
17:47
what is that does that mean is that does that mean it's a problem like my alignment's off or something not really
17:52
I mean so depending on where you have your spring Zone on your reformer and
17:58
what you're doing like if we're working on spring on particularly if it's on the extreme
18:04
sales on the extreme left just that one spring your reformers gonna swivel a
18:10
little bit do you know what I mean so we're on two Springs that's why whenever people are doing like stuff like short spine
18:15
clients go to take off two springs on the same side I'll just adjust them back so it's one on either side so the reform
18:20
is a little bit better balance but the waiters are on the stage they're called gate wheels they're literally
18:26
that's what they are they're gay they're there to guide the reformer right along the the frame on the track on the frame
18:32
and but yeah especially they don't bump off the site really like it's metal metal is not a nice zone so they're
18:39
there to keep the reformer aligned as it goes in and out but as the wheel touches off your frame
18:44
leaves will be better residue behind over time and that's what causes those black marks up and down the sides they
18:51
can just be cleaned off again I use the method method on just an Old Rag and just get stuck into and it starts to
18:57
come away now those are the gateways right so do you ever notice on the tracks of your
19:04
reformer there'll be like that little black dots I can wipe off easily
19:09
so that's like a bit of dirt or something it's just over time can have been rolled into your frame
19:15
so if you're struggling with that then I take the another little bit of the wire wool or the steel wood
19:25
Strokes so go nice and long on it so that it doesn't like if you're just kind of going at it on one particular spot
19:31
it'll change the color in a little bit but if you go nice and long and smooth it just starts to lift off
19:37
um and that just kind of it'll come back up to like clean clean the way it arrived but that's all that is it's just
19:43
like a little bit of dirt or something it's got compacted down I'm gonna have they got a steel wool
19:49
no they're handy so handy do you know anything about using WD-40
19:55
I've heard various um like well you said you could use it on the Springs but like I think that's all I'd use it for using it but you
20:02
should you wouldn't use it anywhere I mean they definitely shouldn't use it on the wheels right no yeah
20:10
damn Grace yeah and looked at and the WD-40 is more as a sealant like it's
20:16
sales and it's kind of it'll protect against that rust coming back that's what I would use it for
20:22
try that on my sprains because I
20:27
is always spray or put the water on the pad on your washcloth never put it
20:33
directly on the vinyl and I think one thing that that helps with
20:39
is that it doesn't get like residual spray onto the Springs like if you were to just spray your reformer mask then it
20:47
would kind of It kind of sprinkles down into it every time oh yeah director of the washcloth and
20:53
it's only going on your vein and I suppose so yeah no that's a good little tip um
20:59
let's see what else did they ask us we so we asked the Pilates Community for their questions and so I'm reading off
21:04
some of them um do you know how often like Wheels
21:10
Springs and leather straps need to be replaced well you mentioned Springs that how to look at the spring and see when
21:16
that needs yeah but what about hard work off that what about leathers
21:23
okay let's look at the leather straps right so they stretch over time like
21:28
you'll notice like your the feel of a brand new strap as opposed to one that's kind of worn in a little bit is quite
21:34
different so this this the leather strap will it'll stretch over time as you use it so underneath the shoulder blocks
21:42
there's two long screws that can be adjusted and so when the thing with the straps is They
21:50
Don't Really and they don't stretch at the same rate so you can end up with one longer than the other quite often you
21:56
end up with one longer than the other so underneath there's a little screw with two bolts either side of a of a little
22:03
frame and you can adjust it back and forth as you need to so as your straps
22:09
become too long so like there is a measure for your for how long
22:14
your strap should be so it's like I go off the widths of my thumb or like the top of your thumb not a little bit and
22:21
past the shoulder block the leather should run past that before you hit the d-ring that your handles are attached to
22:27
yeah so you clip the handle to the d-ring and the d-rings attached at the end of your your leather strap
22:34
um so that should run about a thumb thumb like the top of your thumb cast there is an exact measurement for but I
22:42
can't remember it's in my workshop um and whenever that gets too long you can
22:47
adjust underneath so you can shorten the length of that strap now that'll hit a point where you run out of screw and it
22:54
can't be adjusted anymore but it doesn't mean that the straps necessarily needed to be replaced like I
22:59
take mine to uh shoe cobbler someone who works with leather and he cuts my straps
23:05
for me so I think he's caught them twice for me now just to bring them back over the
23:12
straps are perfect there's nothing wrong with them they've just gotten too long I did have one strap so the straps are
23:19
glued together at a certain point and like if you go and visually inspect you'll see like a where it's it's glued
23:27
together mine snap one day fortunately with a client I've known for
23:32
a long time who did not panic because I was planning but um it just snapped like
23:37
right before Christmas I thought I'll get to the Christmas holidays out of this and then I'll get it fixed oh my God but it's not for the week to go but
23:45
same thing brought it to my guy and he just locked out and went yep super I'll
23:50
glue it for you and he'd done a little bit of stitching with it so even if they're snapped you can always bring them to True cobblers or die in it's a
23:58
dying job now they're like there's not that many in my own but if you find one they've generally been doing it for a while they're good with leather and
24:04
they'll have no problems I've heard also people take their leather to the people
24:09
who like work with horses I guess like oh that's a good shirt yeah
24:16
it depends what's in your community so like for instance in my community I'm in
24:21
Miami and everybody has boats here so the people say whenever they give a problem with the vinyl like follow the people that repair the vinyl on the
24:28
boats because there are other people are all over the place here but now if you're in like yes that's not going to get you very far no exactly so no use
24:36
your local community will be my advice and like the guy who does mine like he looked he had no idea what I was
24:41
handling and I was like all right for exercise it's definitely have to explain what Pilates is right exactly and so but
24:49
now he was able to fix it no problem and he's done quite a few bits for me and like yeah so I'd recommend like a
24:55
leather work or shoe cobbler or I'd never thought of like somebody who does again the Saddles and stuff for horses
25:00
that's a great idea he's got to think about okay what do people in my community use leather for what do they like especially make but yeah everybody
25:07
has a shoe somebody who repairs shoes probably so that's a great tip
25:12
um what about Wheels how do you know when Wheels need to be replaced
25:19
um it becomes quite obvious yeah so the
25:24
wheel itself like it's normal for there to be a little bit of the black
25:29
starting to come off the wheels right and I bought a little bit but if it's a load and regularly lots and lots of like
25:37
oh I just cleaned this thing down last week why is it black again already it's probably time to replace the wheels
25:45
you're getting a lot of years earlier weeks before they need to be replaced and just on that so when I do a reformer
25:52
service I'll flip the wheel to the other way because it's a little bit off the track so I'll turn it to the wheel it
26:00
wears more even like you know people who like wear one side of the shoe walk a bit funny that's such a good thing I'll
26:06
turn it away so that it so that it starts to wear on the other side and that kind of keeps it a little bit more
26:11
even like if you're turning them every six to 12 months it just makes it all move a little and
26:19
doing it I'm doing it today I'm rotating we got you got to rotate your wheels it's like you
26:25
like your guitar right big time yeah exactly that's the thing all right
26:31
um so somebody I'm gonna read some just some questions from our Pilates people our Pilates community so one of the
26:37
questions they asked is how to repair a cut in the vinyl do you have any tips for that
26:43
caught on the vinyl I would say there's teams that you can buy and
26:49
just at a local hardware store or whatever there's vinyl tape you can buy now getting one that specifically matches your color
26:56
and might be difficult but if you can put up with a different color vinyl tip I would go with that until
27:02
until it hits the point where you you can't cope anymore and you need a you know your OCD kicks in and you need to
27:07
replace it in which case contact the manufacturer they'll they'll be able to send you out
27:13
um just the vinyl and then you get your hands on an upholsterer and they can
27:18
swap it out for you again hard to get your well I know and Sydney it's hard to get your hands on a good upholsterer yeah they're used to
27:26
doing like you know seats and stuff you have handyman reformer couch maybe they'll just you know they'll need a couple of runs through to get it exactly
27:32
right but they can swap it over for you there's also on Amazon there's some like
27:38
liquid leather repair kits the colors yourself so wow I know that's
27:46
like they'll give you like those sounds like a rainy day activity with my daughter I'm afraid to do it I have some I have some where my dog chewed on the
27:53
corner of mine and I've been wanting because it's a good place where it's not going to totally ruin it you know if I
28:00
yeah a little bit but I'm gonna eventually take it make an attempt at that we'll see maybe I'll record it for
28:06
everybody to watch um let me know how that goes another one I would use would be the tape yeah the
28:14
team has worked well and it but it is just a temporary thing you know eventually after quality of off and replace it and
28:21
and then at a certain point you just have to give in and go right it's time to get this thing reupholstered
28:26
um and that's a great tip also to ask the manufacturer who to use because I remember one of the studios I worked in
28:32
got it recovered and it wasn't quite right and I don't think the people knew what you know how to work with Pilates
28:38
equipment no I know what you mean and look like I know that you can get gradual
28:45
centered um they sent me out a new cover for my reformer because I have a gray
28:50
one on a black one I'm told I'd want to have two black ones but kind of like having a great one a black one so I didn't change it over but I have it here
28:57
but it's cop to size so it's cop to you know the dimensions it needs to be there's like the little bits cut out for
29:03
your shoulder blocks stuff like that so I don't definitely recommend just contacting those guys and getting it I'm
29:09
sure it was something like that they could just air sand it out like it doesn't have to you know it can be sent quite easily and so yeah those that
29:17
would be what I would say when you hit that point just contact whoever manufactured your reformer get a new one centered they'll be able to get to the
29:23
exact same color as what you have if that's what you're after maybe change it up yeah
29:29
okay um somebody says ever since I moved my brand new reformer across the country
29:35
the rails have had a slight drag sound clean them and the wheels profusely and
29:42
still hear it it feels okay it just bugs me do you think dust could have gotten into the wheel bearings what might
29:47
create a drag sound yeah it could be something like that I probably need to see it and hear it but
29:54
give it a definite answer but look I would say just got through the steps and clean out about head to
30:00
toe like get into the the hosen like what what the wheels are held in I definitely say take the wheels
30:07
out of in all four positions or all the hit positions the gateways and the carriage wheels just pull it apart clean
30:13
it up re-grease it put it back together it should take that drag certain way
30:19
there's only so many moving parts where it could be causing it so that
30:24
would be you know 99 of things you get sorted out by just doing that simple step
30:29
yeah I couldn't I could see that happening moving because they're so rough with that
30:36
reactions you know when you're talking about rotating the wheels my be something to think about or just
30:42
start yes maybe another thing to check would maybe be if they've gone through and changed out the wheels to make sure
30:49
that they bolts were put in the right way so when you're putting
30:55
and I found this out the hard way because it it made a horrendous noise at the studio one day but um so the bolt
31:02
will stick out a little bit further at the end you you screw the nut in so they always have to be on the inside
31:09
if it's on the outside yeah it makes a really nasty noise when it screeches along the inside of the Reel so maybe it
31:15
could be something like that but look I'd really need to see and hear that one so if that person wants get in touch and
31:21
send me a video but I've done that with people before where they've sent me a video of the reformer and I'm like oh that sounds like well how can they get
31:27
in touch with you where should they send it to what's your email uh I have uh my studio website probably
31:35
the best way just go through there so that's Harry Corey pilates.com and and yeah if anybody who's any random
31:42
questions that we haven't covered feel free to send it through and I'll take a look at it
31:48
do you have any somebody asked about the threads so it says the threads on the corners of my long and short box are
31:53
starting to show and open up any ideas on what to do about loose threads
31:59
oh see that's the same if you get like a rep on the on the reformer card so that would just be a case of get that final
32:06
tip I think you can get it on Amazon and I buy it at a hardware store here but you can get it on Amazon I'm sure and
32:13
just cover over those corners and again put up with it until you can't put up with it anymore and it's probably time
32:18
to reupholster the Box yeah if somebody else says it's sunscreen
32:24
season in the South I know all about that my tennis golfer students seem to bathe
32:29
in it so hard to get that stuff off effectively any tips for getting off sunscreen
32:36
uh not like I would say for something like that end of the summer whenever people are stopping
32:42
using the sun cream go with the method that and just get stuck in more
32:48
generally though I would like it we get it out here too in the summer and Sydney it gets quite hot so there's a lot of
32:53
sunscreen and get down to put it to older that's what I do
33:00
you know and there's there's some companies that make like they're like talls that are for your reformer
33:06
Carriage itself and then again they have like the little shoulder block colors so you get one of them if you wanted but
33:12
I think just getting them to bring it all and you know make sure it's just small enough taller it's not hanging
33:17
over the edges or getting in the way but yeah something like that you're thinking you're just not making
33:23
contact with the vinyl yeah speaking about towels
33:28
um that's also really important when you have people who sweat a lot like here if I have people who just are really like
33:34
they work really hard and they sweat a lot I always make sure they have a towel because that's another thing that causes rust on my Springs if they're sweating
33:41
all of your rings yeah somebody's looking here with salt water like they're sweating so
33:47
salt water is just going to make things rust straight away towels keep it clean guys
33:53
um okay so anything else are there any other tips that you wanted to throw in
34:00
there any final thoughts any common mistakes we all seem to make or
34:05
do the same with the Springs when I talk about rotating the wheels every now and again just swap your Springs over
34:11
like everybody takes out two metal springs for their short spring it's always two middle Springs two middle Springs
34:18
outside Springs then they're all getting the same sort of wear just small things
34:23
like I love that I'm doing that today I'm doing the rotation of the springs and wheels everything's getting rotated yeah
34:30
everything's getting rotated it's happening the other thing is I always have my dog in my studio and I know
34:35
there's got to be dog hair in my wheels I know that's not good I need to get it 100 that stuff's
34:41
getting in there for sure um all right so you so if someone wants to
34:48
get in touch with you about classical Pilates apparatus maintenance you said they can reach you through your website
34:56
um tell us one more time the website they should go to uh so the website is partycore
35:02
pilates.com I'm sure if you Google party and pilates it'll come up there's not many patties
35:08
to employees as far as I know um the other way probably is probably probably a little bit easier is just to message me on Instagram so I have a
35:14
reformer maintenance page um search for reformer maintenance 101.
35:19
and um yeah if you find me on there and just shoot me a message through there I do
35:25
sometimes like they ask me questions those sort of things on the stories so yeah I use that one to kind of keep a
35:31
lot of the maintenance stuff when I throw it like random tips and stuff every now and again on that page as well great all right well thank you that was
35:38
so helpful I I love some of those tips are ones that I'm definitely going to use I'm so happy
35:43
um that you came on and shared all this knowledge with us and if anybody is
35:49
ready to tackle your reformer maintenance you can purchase Patty's ebook I'm gonna put a link um in the caption here so that you can
35:56
go directly to it so Patty thank you so much I really appreciate your time my pleasure thank you okay
